About
Joey Sanders —
Writer of Absurd,
Momentous Things
A writer of novellas, plays, and screenplays. The work spans comedy and tragedy, addiction and ambition, plastic surgery and fairy tales — sometimes all at once. A Little Sedated won at the Big Apple Film Festival in the first summer of the pandemic. Nose Joboholics took nine years to finish. Some stories refuse to be rushed.
"I'd say you're in for a very entertaining read — and hopefully one day (soon!) you'll see my stories on a bigger stage."
Selected Works
Stories Across Every Form
A Little Sedated
Brenda & Eddie, two high school seniors, fall for each other and miss while they land in the loving — yet addicting — arms of anorexia, adderall, pot, acid, and more. Funny but really sad too. A commentary on the crazy transition into adulthood from the vantage point of awful childhoods.
Nose Joboholics
A full-length play about plastic surgery addicts with varying degrees of wellness and grave and maniacal hysteria over the "botched" way they look.
A Sucker for Mania (let me explainia)
A ride through the absurd and momentous occasions recreated for your utmost entertainment. Twenty thousand words of manic, hilarious, and deeply human storytelling.
Screenplays
A Little Sedated and The Golden Bird, or You Remind Me of Me — two feature screenplays available to read and download now.

A voice that arrives fully formed — precise, hilarious, and impossible to put down. This is the kind of writing that makes you reconsider what stories are for.
Big Apple Film Festival
Festival Jury, 2020
The play stopped the room. There is a maniacal energy here that is completely controlled — wild on the surface, devastating underneath.
On Nose Joboholics
Theater Reader
Joey Sanders writes like someone who has lived every single word. The mania is real, the comedy is real, and the sadness underneath it all is the realest thing of all.
